Neighbours’ Ramsay St on Google Street View

Posted Tuesday 12.08.08

Google launched its Street View addition to Google Maps here in Australia at the beginning of this month. Despite all the controversy around it, a few reports of inappropriate images (here’s one), personally I don’t have any real privacy issues with it, especially given that the images seem to be around 6 months out of date, but, even if they were fresher than that they’d hardly compare to a CCTV system or other viable method of spying on someone. Nonetheless, Google do now allow you to request your property be removed from the system if you wish (so I’ve heard).

Pointless as the feature is, I quite enjoy viewing places I know in street view form. I’m struggling to think of any other reason than curiosity that one might want to use it though. Perhaps to get some idea of what a destination may look like prior to embarking on a journey there? I don’t know. But anyway, I can’t remember why, for some reason though I thought it would be cool to look up the street of the world’s favourite Australian soap opera, Neighbours’ Ramsay Street, known in real life as Pin Oak Court, Vermont South, Victoria.

I was a little disappointed to find at the end of the street there wasn’t even a novelty ‘Ramsay Street’ sign.

Where shall I go and waste another 5 minutes viewing and getting directions to from my house now? Perhaps I should go and check out StreetViewFun.com.
