New music for your ears and your collection

Posted Tuesday 17.06.08

Every once in a while you discover a website that you can’t believe you hadn’t come across before, but nonetheless you are happy to have finally found (or at least been pointed in the direction of by a friend).

If you are looking for an easy way to expand your music collection (for free) with new, emerging, quality music, from artists who are making their way quite successfully in the world of music, then wander on over to aurgasm.us. aurgasm.us is a neat website for several reasons. The main feature is of course the music that is succinctly reviewed and legally offered for download (all tracks are posted with the permission of the copyright holder). The design of the site is very straight forward too and serves its purpose well. Then there are the quirky Ajax features, namely the in-line loading of comments. But, coolest of all is the almost never ending, river style loading of the bottom of the page. Assuming you have JavaScript enabled (which most people do), once you have scrolled past the first 10 entries, another 10 attach themselves to the bottom and so on as you keep scrolling. Of course, every river has a source, aurgasm.us’s is August 2004, but I’ve not actually scrolled that far down to see if it goes all the way.

The majority of the artists featured are probably only known to - at least to start with - the people they have performed to wherever that may be and those who have stumbled upon them by other means, but you may come across the occasional gem who you have heard elsewhere. In my case it was of Justine Electra, a Melbourne lass who gets the occasional play on Nova 100 down here.

Thanks to Morgan for the pointer on this one!
